Latest News - Another Fire

August 8th, 2009 - I'm sad to report that another fire has devastated a member of our community. This last weekend Håvve Fjell's Fakir School was destroyed. At this point there is very little information, but we have received this link and the following message from Havve and was asked to pass it along:

We're all fine, nobody got hurt. Our school is destroyed and I don't know how much of our stuff we'll be able to save. I just got back from Essen tonight, the fire happened Saturday night at the beginning of a party. We don't know the cause, the police report will hopefully be released to us tomorrow.

I'm completely perplex about the situation and don't know how I'm supposed to handle the consequences. I have no insurance and I fearing liability claims from the owner of the building. We have 3 shows coming up this weekend and a fully booked season ahead and most of our costumes and props are ashes...

I'll know more tomorrow.

For those of you that do not know Havve, or his group Pain Solution, he has been a member of our community for many years and has been instrumental in bringing body modification to the general public through performance, teaching, lectures and by helping organize numerous events, most notably the Oslo Suscon.

If everyone gives even half as much to him as he has given to us, he will be well on the way to recovery. Here is how you can help:

Donations - Here is the link to his paypal:

Please dig deep and help.

Banners - If you are creative and good at making web banners, please make one and link it to the paypal URL above.

Fund Raising - This can be a simple as making a banner placing it on people pages to organizing an event with some of the proceeds going to Havve.

I know many of you gave already to Matt Brawley when he lost everything in fire earlier this year...but if you can afford it, please donate again.

Tragedy in our Community

May 16, 2009 - I don't have all the details yet, but here is the email I got from Patricia and Steve. Please help if you can!

Last night, a fire occurred in Matt (director of our L.A. chapter) Brawley's building, and destroyed everything that he owns. He was not home when the fire started, and was thankfully not hurt. However, this fire means huge losses for him personally (he is self-employed, and works out of his home), as well as for CoRE's L.A. chapter, as everything was in Matt's home. (All of their flight cases, one-of-a-kind costumes, fully-stocked piercing department, all of our cheek spears, merchandise, their cash box (with cash), gurneys and massage tables, set pieces, full rigging department, etc.)

If you are in a position to donate funds towards the rebuilding of these losses, we will gratefully accept your help. At this point, anything helps. We've created a donation page via paypal, so if you follow the link below and donate, we can get the money to Matt as quickly as possible.

Here's the link for donations:

Thank you all very much!

Suspension.org is a website for those interested in the art and technical aspects of body suspension and the responsible dissemination of information pertaining to such. It is not designed to encourage people to attempt any dangerous activities.

The act of suspension is hanging the human body from (or partially from) hooks pierced through the flesh in various places around the body.

There are many different reasons to suspend, from pure adrenaline or endorphin rush, to conquering ones fears, to trying to reach a new level of spiritual consciousness and everything in between. In general, people suspend to attain some sort of "experience".

Some people are seeking the opportunity to discover a deeper sense of themself and to challenge pre-determined belief systems which may not be true. Some are seeking a right of passage or a spiritual encounter to let go of the fear of not being whole or complete inside their body.

Others are looking for control over their body, or seek to prove to themselves that they are more than their bodies, or are not their bodies at all. Others simply seek to explore the unknown.

Vertical Back Suspension
"Suicide"
This suspension takes place hooked from the back of the body and hung vertically.

Horizontal Face Down
"Superman"

This suspension takes place hooked from the back of the body and hung horizontally.

Horizontal Face Up
"Coma"
This suspension takes place hooked from the front of the body and hung horizontally.
