Many of you have seen the Go Up Movement and Inter Hook written about on here several times before. One of the reasons that I keep an eye on what these teams have going on is their dedication to making the suspension community a safer place in Brazil. Everyone I have talked to within their groups has such a strong passion for body suspension, and the leaders are set on educating their fellow practitioners as best they can. In an area where suspension is growing so quickly, it’s comforting to know that there are those who are trying to reach out and pull their community in the direction of safety and learning.

This September 17-18, these teams will present Suspension Day: A Meeting of Suspension Practitioners in Brasilia. It is intended to be a continuation of the March “Inter Hook” meeting, and carries on the goal of bringing together professionals in the suspension community to exchange information and ideas with one another, as well as teaching participants and attendees about the suspension and body art community. Classes will be offered ranging from rigging techniques and suspension safety to basic first aid, and several lectures will be presented throughout the weekend, including one on Body Suspension and Body Modification in Brazil by Valnei Santos. It cartainly isn’t all work and no play though; 20 suspension practitioners will be on hand to provide suspensions for those who wish to participate, as well as a range of performances, musicians, photographers, and more.

Registration will be available from June 1st until September 1st, but space is limited to 70 individuals. I would recommend signing up early if you wish to attend, and don’t forget to pack your camera so you can get plenty of photos to send in to us at Hook Life.
